Well West Africa Wins Again, WAWA. Last night was my first night of losing to West Africa. Yea it sounds weird but we use "WAWA" quite frequently. When something doesn't go your way, but it would in any other place on the planet. Like you run out of Gas and the Gas truck hasn't been through the nearest big city in a week so everyone's out anyways, in that case West Africa Wins. My WAWA night was a little different, I'm still not sure what started my quick and steep fall into the losing column. It may have been the Forage water I had for lunch or it might have been the slightly undercooked meat that I whoofed down for dinner, But up until 2AM I thought I still had the upper hand. Boy did West Africa hit me hard.
WARNING: The Following paragraph is not for the faint at heart, or light-headed. The following few words are disturbing and I take no responsibility on how you react to this news. So be forewarned. If I had to give it a Rating I'd say at least PG-13, maybe even an R (for disturbing sequence of events, and nothing more) so for those of you who want the abbreviated version please skip down.
When I went to bed around midnight, my stomach had a few words of its' own but I didn't think anything of it, figured it'd go away by morning. So I fell asleep and enjoyed my rest very much until I woke up at 2AM and felt like I was about to explode. I ran to my desk and grabbed a Pepto-Bismol and tried to go back to sleep, but W.A. was already gaining the upper hand. I sat in the bathroom for about 5 minutes but after some prayer and no signs of regurgitation, I finally went back to bed. I fell back asleep shortly, only to wake up an hour later, and then another hour after that, and finally at 5:38 AM West Africa dealt the final blow. I got up, ran to the bathroom and wasn't over the toilet bowl for more then 20 seconds when everything I had eaten in the past week came flying up my esophagus and out my mouth faster then I could react. I quite literally exploded from my mouth. Somehow with my head in the toilet bowl I accomplished the amazing feet of having my Breakfast, lunch, and dinner end up on my shirt, my shorts, all over the floor in our little bathroom (see Photo album, top right, for picture of size of bathroom), but did manage to keep most of it confined to the toilet bowl. The West Africa decided to deal me another big blow, which I finally was able to confine to the toilet, and I though West Africa had finished off its' blows after the third punch to the gut. I was wrong. Right when I was done throwing up, West Africa decided to send everything the other way, and I will spare you those details except to say that our little bathroom was a very unpleasant place to be at that moment. I did happen to refill our flushing bucket on one of my previous trips to the W.C. so I was able to send all of my defeats down the toilet and get everything cleaned up in a fairly timely manner. I finally got back to bed but was unable to really fall back into a relaxing slumber, waking up every 15-30 minutes.
RECAP: I threw up and had diarrhea all last night.
So Today I will be spending all day at home and unable to join the guys who are biking out about an hour's bike ride to these gorgeous waterfalls/swimming hole. I'm sure we'll go again though so I'm just going to think of it as a rest and relaxation day, where I will be online most of the day, maybe watch a few movies, and hopefully spend some time in prayer and fasting since I won't be eating anything today, or at least for right now.
Hope that wasn't too bad and my sarcasm and wording was a little humorous. I do know that there might be some people who will read this who won't find any of that humorous but to those of you who did let me add a little more humor and irony to your day. Last night one of the last things I did on facebook was receive a message from my grandma, and in it she said, something to the fact of "it looks like you are fitting in to Africa pretty easy, you haven't gotten sick..." and the first thing that popped in my head as I was losing everything inside me was, "Grandma, you spoke too soon." With that being said I will say adieu for now.
Blessings,
Mark
